What is Detroit Car Week?

Detroit Car Week is an exciting event that gives lovers of the famed Woodward Dream Cruise an opportunity to “continue the cruise” over 5 days in the heart of the Motor City. From Sunday, August 20th to Thursday, August 24th, Hart Plaza will be transformed into a car enthusiast’s dream, with plenty to do, see, and hear. The event kicks off at noon on Sunday, August 20th and runs from 10:30am-10pm each subsequent event day. With free entry and all ages welcome, Detroit Car Week boasts daily afternoon and evening car show sessions, musical entertainment and exhibitions by the Detroit Roller Derby, plenty of free family-friendly activities including race car simulators, slot cars, a pit stop challenge, nightly drive-in movies, and so much more!

When is Detroit Car Week?

Detroit Car Week will run from Sunday, August 20th to Thursday, August 24th. The event kicks off at noon on Sunday, August 20th and runs from 10:30am-10pm each subsequent event day.

Where is Detroit Car Week?

Detroit Car Week was originally planned to be on the corner of Woodward and Monroe near Campus Martius Park.  Due to the early demand, we have moved the location to Hart Plaza on the beautiful Detroit Riverfront. There is plenty of room for your specialty ride so come on down and join the show!

How do I register my car for the car shows?

Registration for car owners looking to participate in the car shows is easy and free. Both car clubs and individuals are welcome to park at the event and showcase their classic/muscle/performance/niche cars for either an individual session, for a full day, or even for the duration of the event! Detroit Car Week will feature daily afternoon and evening car show sessions from 10:30am-2pm and 4-8pm. Everyone who registers will receive an inaugural event lanyard for themselves and up to 3 guests, and each car owner receives a complimentary Detroit Car Week branded t-shirt for participating. Do I need to register my car to park at the drive-in movie?

Yes, classic/muscle/performance/niche car owners are required to register online to secure their spot. When filling out the form choose the “7:30PM to 9:30PM (Drive-In Movie)” selection to reserve your parking for the movie. Interested parties can register Here.

How much does it cost to register my car?

Registration for classic and specialty car owners who are participating in the car shows is easy and free. Click Here to register your car for the car shows and/or drive-in movies.

Will there be seating for the drive-in movies?

Guests who do not have a classic/muscle/performance/niche car at the event are encouraged to stay for the drive-in movies and stadium/folding chairs are welcome.


Can I leave my car parked at the event overnight?

There will not be overnight parking available at Hart Plaza for your fancy ride, sorry!

Where should I park?

What if it rains?

Detroit Car Week is a rain or shine event, so please check the weather beforehand. Only in cases of extreme weather will we evacuate the event area, but only for the duration of severe weather (storm threatening lightning and/or winds).

Will credit/debit cards be accepted?

You bet! We will accept all major credit/debit cards.

Note: There will be a small convenience fee per card charge, so we recommend bringing cash!

Will there be ATMs onsite?

Yes. There will be at least one ATM onsite.

Can I bring my pet?

YES, dogs are allowed. Owners are asked to keep them on a leash, bring proper supplies to keep the park clean, and of course away from the participating show car’s tires!

Do I need an ID?

Guests are required to show valid ID only if they intend on drinking alcohol.

Can I bring in my own food and beverage?

Because this event has a state regulated liquor license and health department licenses in place for the event, NO OUTSIDE ALCOHOL OR BEVERAGES ARE PERMITTED – NO COOLERS ALLOWED. We have a great selection of pop, water, beer, cocktails and food available for sale at reasonable prices, so we invite you to visit our friendly bartenders and food vendors to enjoy some of our Motor City themed drinks and food available!Everything else at the event is free, the participating charities appreciate your support.
